In May 2007, Utility Services was formed as a service organization to assist companies in the ERO’s compliance and reliability efforts. Under the ERO, registered entities are obligated to demonstrate compliance and operating reliably through specific performance requirements approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Since its inception, Utility Services has provided guidance and assistance on registration, compliance, and standard development to over 100 registered entities in all six NERC regions of the United States and Canada. Our constituents include publicly owned entities, independent generation, and transmission owners. Utility Services has participated in over 200 audits since its inception. To date, our customers have had less than 10 enforcement actions.

Utility Services is a member of ISO New England, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), NPCC, RF, FRCC, MRO, WECC, NERC Ballot Body for Standard Development (NERC RBB), and various other standing committees. Additionally, Utility Services is involved in the APPA, NEPPA, NWPPA, TAPS, WICF, and the NAGF. Our staff is actively serving on standard development teams, working groups, and task forces, working to keep informed of the new trends and discussions that are current in compliance and reliability.
