Origination
ENE has long been a leader in buyer-side structured transaction origination in the Northeast. This has led to several cost-effective and innovative transactions that have saved our customers money and taken advantage of constantly changing market dynamics. Key to our success is maintaining strong counterparty relationships and working with them to develop creative solutions such as:
- Optimizing transmission assets resulting in additional value
- Structuring energy transactions that are delivering or will deliver impactful noncarbon energy to our customers throughout New England

Developing a virtual power plant contract structure that saved more than $41 million over 10 years
Non-Carbon Energy Procurement
ENE has worked with our customers to substantially decarbonize their power portfolios since the late 2000’s.
It started with a run-of-river hydro project and grew to include several onshore wind projects, utility scale solar and nuclear energy to balance some of the intermittent nature of the other noncarbon transactions.
Distributed Energy Resource Support & Management
ENE designs and implements end user peak shaving programs for utilities, providing predictive analytics and load shed alerts, providing end users greater information to understand what drives their costs and empowering them to manage those costs.
Our comprehensive services range from managing RFP processes for noncarbon resources as well as peak shaving distributed generation and energy storage to helping evaluate and negotiate PPAs for utility scale solar arrays at the distribution level, to remote monitoring and dispatch of those distributed resources. Our market activity helps ensure that both behind the meter and in front of the meter opportunities are prioritized and optimized.
Settlement Services
ENE enables efficient participation in both the commodity and ISO-NE markets for its customers. Our support services range from transaction tie out and verification of counterparty invoice amounts to our turnkey settlement service where we maintain customer deposit account funds and perform the essential and ever-more-frequent ISO-NE settlement function directly for the customer.
ENE performs twice weekly ISO-NE shadow settlement and supports customer accounting and energy staff with their internal settlement requirements. We distill the growing list of ISO-NE charges and credits into a form that supports understanding of new or changing market charges and helps reduce budget surprises.
We also support generators who balance ISO-NE market participation and purchased power agreement billing for transactions with individual or public power purchasing groups.

Hedging Plan Development, Execution & Implementation
We develop tailored procurement strategies based on each client’s risk tolerance and portfolio goals. This iterative process is regularly updated to adapt to market changes and evolving risk profiles. Our strong relationships with major market players offer customers a wider choice of suppliers, reducing supply risk and ensuring competitive pricing.
Portfolio Modeling
ENE’s focus on both the short- and long-term results in a comprehensive approach ranging from mitigating hourly spot market risk to purchase power agreement (PPA) terms of 25 years. This analysis is fed by short-term hourly forecasts as well as longer term, macro level consumption projections.
ENE’s combines a top-down approach considering long-term voluntary or mandated decarbonization goals with the bottom-up analysis required to ensure customer portfolios remain in balance considering growing interest and commitment to renewable resources. This requires creative solutions to balance lower carbon goals with less certain generation levels, and the potential to have too much power when it is not needed or too little when it is.
Remote Dispatch Services for Distributed Energy Resources
ENE offers remote dispatch services for a diverse range of distributed energy resources across New England, from batteries to combustion engines, whether permanent or temporary. Our dispatch service and peak load-shaving capabilities help clients lower Transmission and Capacity costs, consistently reducing load during Capacity peaks each year. Using our scalable in-house software or asset-specific control packages, we remotely dispatch a growing fleet of resources across all fuel types and asset classes.
Credit & Contract Management
ENE regularly monitors counterparty creditworthiness, combining quarterly evaluations with daily exposure checks, ensuring alignment with key contract terms and limits. Strong relationships enable swift actions to protect customers, including switching to financial settlements, drawing on letters of credit, or terminating contracts to establish settlements.
- Quarterly counterparty credit evaluation
- Daily credit & mark-to-market reporting
- Contract scheduling, verification, tie out and settlement
ENE’s Peak Shaving Service
ENE assists in optimization of energy usage by storing solar-generated power during the day and releasing it later when energy demand and prices peak. This process, known as peak shaving, not only lowers energy costs but also helps reduce stress on the regional electrical grid, promoting greater efficiency and reliability.
