Energy Saving Rebates & Programs
No-Cost Home Energy Assessments
In partnership with BMLD, Energy New England (ENE) provides no-cost Home Energy Assessments for BMLD’s residential customers. Our highly trained and experienced Residential Energy Advisors will assess your home’s energy efficiency to identify heating, lighting, weatherization, and rebate opportunities that can save you money on your utility bills.
ENE’s Energy Advisor conducts an in-person or virtual walk-through of your home, inputting information into our energy-efficiency software to create a report for you that analyzes your home’s energy usage, identifies home improvement projects that can lower your energy costs, and links to BMLD’s rebates and incentives. Rebate Program Account Eligibility
- Rebate program is for residential electric accounts only. Commercial accounts aren’t eligible to participate.*
- Belmont Municipal Light Department (BMLD) will determine your electric account’s eligibility to participate in the program.
- An active residential electric account with BMLD for at least 3 months.
- Electric account must be in good standing.
- Rebate item must be installed at account location.
- Resident must agree to allow BMLD to inspect the installation on premises.
- Rebate maximums reset on Jan. 1.

- Offer is subject to funding availability and can expire at any time.
*Electric lawn equipment rebates are open to residents of Belmont as well as commercial businesses operating within Belmont.

Air Source Heat Pump Rebate Programs
Starting in January 1, 2024, Belmont Light will only provide Air Source Heat Pumps rebates to systems that comply with the most recent Federal standards – in January 1, 2023, the federal government issued new standards for heat pump products which caused manufacturers to replace HSPF and SEER efficiency ratings with HSPF2 and SEER2. Eligible systems should follow the same recommended standards.
Before You Install
- Review the ENERGY STAR 6.1 Cold Climate Air-Source Heat Pump to ensure your equipment meets the energy efficiency requirements.
- Starting 1/1/2025 A Home Energy Assessment from Energy New England or Mass Save is required prior to installing an air source heat pump rebate. Sign up online to begin the scheduling process. Your assessment will provide a list of energy-saving recommendations. A Home Energy Assessment must be completed within 3 years of the heat pump installation. Rebate Calculation
- Rebate rate is determined by equipment eligibility, date of installation and the cooling capacity of the outdoor unit(s)
- 12,000 BTUs/hr measured at 95° = 1 ton.
- $1,000 for Residential Low-Income and Small Municipal Rate MB customers
- Please provide a copy of your most recent Belmont Light bill
- $1,000 for customers that remove their old fossil-fuel based system or install an ASHP system while performing a gut renovation or during new construction.
- Please provide proof of fossil-fuel system removal
- Fossil system removal must be done at the same time as the ASHP installation

Energy Star® Appliance & Induction Stove Rebates
Purchasing a new appliance this year? Choose an ENERGY STAR qualified appliance and receive a rebate on your electric bill! BMLD is pleased to offer rebates to customers purchasing selected energy efficient ENERGY STAR-rated appliances. ENERGY STAR appliances have been defined by the Department of Energy (DOE) as being significantly more energy efficient than the average comparable model.

Emission-Free Renewable Distributed Generation
Belmont Light shares its customers’ commitment to emission-free renewable energy. If you are considering installing solar panels or a wind turbine to supply energy to your home or business, please visit our Distributed Energy Resources (DERS) information page.
Belmont Light recognizes that the decision to host an emission-free renewable distributed generation facility requires careful consideration of many economic and physical factors. Our distributed generation policy is designed to provide customers with flexibility of contract and fuel options while maintaining low rates for all customers and the reliability and safety of our system. Green Choice Program
Belmont Light is committed to reaching a 100% renewable portfolio. Want to help us get to 100% even faster? Every Belmont Light customer has the option of further supporting renewable energy resources through our voluntary Green Choice Program. By electing to participate in Green Choice, you can help add additional renewable energy resources to our portfolio for as little as $3 per month added to your electric bill.

Weatherization Rebates
A home energy assessment is required prior to applying for a BMLD weatherization rebate. Sign up online or call Energy New England (ENE) at 888‐772‐4242 to schedule. Your assessment will provide a list of energy-saving recommendations.

- Home Energy Assessment must be completed within 3 years of application date (Mass Save Home Energy Assessment not valid)
- Rebate maximum for air sealing and duct work is 75% of the job cost, not to exceed $500.
- Rebate maximum for insulation is 75% of the job cost, not to exceed $1000.
- Maximum rebate for all weatherization is $1500, not including adders.
- Work must be completed by a licensed contractor to be eligible; self-installation is not eligible for rebate.
- Rebates up to $1,000 will be issued as a credit to the electric account. Rebates $1,000 or greater are issued as a check.
- Applications must be submitted to the portal or postmarked within 6 months (180 days) of purchase date.

Electric Lawn Equipment Rebates
The program is open to residents of Belmont as well as commercial businesses operating within Belmont.
BMLD and Energy New England (ENE) are offering Rebates and Incentives to ratepayers who purchase Electric Lawn Equipment! Our goal is to promote electrification and reduce carbon emissions. Customers, both residential and commercial, that purchase battery-operated electric lawn equipment may be eligible for rebates.

Belmont Drives Electric
Belmont residents with an eligible, permanently installed, network- and/or telematics-enabled Level 2 electric vehicle charger (240V) may be eligible for a $100 rebate. Please see the Belmont Light website for more information and program requirements.

Compact Fluorescent Light Recycling
BMLD encourages safe CFL recycling at the following locations:

Commercial Lighting Retrofit Rebate Program
Belmont Light offers commercial customers financial incentives to replace inefficient light fixtures and bulbs with energy savings products and devices. Rebates are available on a range of eligible lighting equipment for every kind of business. Belmont Light will offer a rebate check of up to 50% of the cost of the installed upgrades and associated labor with a cap of $4,000 per account*.

*Belmont Light reserves the right to reject any application that is incomplete or does not meet program criteria. Each commercial customer account is limited to a maximum rebate check equal to 50% of the cost of the installed upgrades with a general cap of $4,000 per account. Projects that include eligible lighting control systems may be eligible for additional funding. Belmont Light reserves the right to make changes to this program. Changes will not affect the rebate levels of accepted applications.
Commercial Energy Assessment
BMLD offers discounted comprehensive energy assessments to commercial customers in partnership with Energy New England (ENE). This audit will assess the efficiency of all major end uses, including, but not limited to, lighting and HVAC operations. All fuel sources will be evaluated during the assessment. At the conclusion of the assessment, the auditor will go over possible improvements that can be made.
A full energy conservation report will be made available within thirty (30) days of the site visit.
