ENE’s Energy Advisor conducts an in-person or virtual walk-through of your home, inputting information into our energy-efficiency software to create a report for you that analyzes your home’s energy usage, identifies home improvement projects that can lower your energy costs, and links to HMLP’s rebates and incentives.

Energy Star® Appliance Rebates

HMLP is pleased to offer its customer rebates on select efficient ENERGY STAR appliances. The Department of Energy (DOE) defines Energy Star appliances as significantly more energy efficient than the average comparable model.

Hingham Drives Electric

Save money. Save time. Save carbon. Now is the time to switch from gasoline to electricity. Plug-in electric cars are fast, fun, affordable, and efficient. Compared to gasoline vehicles, electric vehicles (EVs) are less costly to operate and maintenance is cheaper and simpler. Hingham Drives Electric is a local initiative designed to raise awareness about the benefits of replacing gasoline-powered vehicles with EVs. Residents in HMLP’s territory are encouraged to test drive and experience the speed and power of EVs first hand.

Air Source Heat Pump Rebates

Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) are an efficient technology to heat and cool a home and offer many advantages over traditional systems including reduced operating costs, improved efficiency, and reduced carbon emissions. To promote electrification and reduce net carbon emissions, HMLP offers rebates to customers who install a central or mini-split air source heat pump (ASHP) in their home or business.

ASHPs are an HVAC technology that provide all-in-one heating and cooling and offer many advantages over traditional oil, propane, or electric resistance systems including cost savings, improved efficiency, and reduced carbon emissions.

Weatherization Rebates

Your home or business is likely not as energy efficient as it can be, resulting in higher electricity and cooling costs. Weatherization rebates target tight building envelopes that will minimize heat loss, leaks, and drafts while maximizing energy efficiency and comfort. After weatherization, it can be more economic to pursue electrification technologies such as heat pumps.

Energy Saving Light Bulbs

HMLP has had several energy efficient lighting programs with Light-Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs that have included our subsidizing discounts at local stores, distributing free bulbs at our office, giving them to several groups at the Senior Center, sharing them with Hingham students at various educational outreach programs and have made them available to participants at the Hingham Family Fun Day.

LED bulbs are available at HMLP’s office on 31 Bare Cove Park Drive, Hingham, MA. Customers must call the office before coming to pick up a light bulb at 781-749-0134. Please see the Hingham Light Plant website for and program requirements and Commercial Lighting program details.

Solar Rebate

Commercial Energy Assessment

Commercial properties are eligible for Energy Assessments that review lighting and HVAC equipment. To schedule an assessment, please email a completed Commercial Intake form to commercial@ene.org. or call Energy New England (ENE) at 888-772-4242.

HMLP has contracted with ENE to provide energy management studies and to develop a plan of action for each energy conservation measure identified. Commercial Assessments review a property’s lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). ENE’s Commercial Energy Auditor will recommend energy conservation measures that are end-use specific based upon standard engineering analysis as well as cost estimates derived from experience or other similar projects.

HMLP has structured the program so that the customer pays one third (1/3) of the cost of the assessment. The remaining two thirds (2/3) of the cost of the assessment will be paid for by HMLP. HMLP’s portion will range from $500 to $3,750.

Commercial Lighting Retrofit Rebate Program

HMLP offers a Lighting Retrofit Rebate to its commercial, industrial, and municipal customers that retrofit inefficient interior lighting systems, or convert outdoor lighting to Light Emitting Diode (LED). The lighting rebate applies to the retrofitting of existing:

• T8 & T12 fluorescent lamps with magnetic ballasts to T5 or T8 lamps with electronic ballasts
• T8 & T12 high output or high intensity discharge (HID) fixtures to T5 or T8 high output with electronic ballasts
• Compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) exit signs with new Light Emitting Diode (LED), Electroluminescent, or Photo luminescent exit signs
• High pressure sodium, mercury vapor, or incandescent outdoor lighting to LED
• The installation of occupancy sensors – passive infrared and/or ultrasonic detectors only with no manual ON or override switches

HMLP caps the rebate amount at 50% of the project cost with a maximum of $4,000 per account. The rebate amount is credited to the customer’s account.
